Kick Start Art Pack!

22nd Feb 2021

We have created this Kick start art pack from funding through the West Belfast Partnership.

Art is a natural activity to support free experimental play in children it allows the freedom to manipulate different materials and allows for exploration and experimentation.

We know that children are naturally curious and love to explore, observe and imitate, trying to figure out how things operate and how to control themselves and their environments. The activities in this pack will support children to explore and helps children form connections in their brain helping them learn whilst at the same time having fun.

There are a variety of activities to complete in this kit that will develop key skills alongside building positivity:

  • Fine motor skills. Grasping markers develops their fine motor muscles. This development will help your child with writing, buttoning a coat and other tasks that require controlled movements.
  • Cognitive development. Learning and practising skills like patterning and cause and effect (i.e., “If I push very hard with this marker the colour is darker.”).
  • Math skills. learning, creating and beginning to understand concepts like size, shape, making comparisons, counting and spatial reasoning.
  • Language skills. As children describe and share their artwork, as well as their process, they develop language skills. You can develop this by actively listening and asking open-ended questions .Taking part in these activities is good for overall health and well-being.

Allowing your child a creative outlet ,by encouraging artistic expression you can help relieve stress and work through things happening in their lives.

We will share 4 separate seesaw links that will bring you directly to special videos created by our local artist Grianne and step by step instructions on how to use your pack with your child.

Please send us  photographs of the wonderful creations and let us know if you and your child enjoyed taking part in these activities!

Thank you.
